Rating: - Breaking Boundaries
Don't purchase this item expecting an epic title. If played correctly the entire game only lasts around seven minutes. But it is indeed a novel and brave idea to make what is pretty much an interactive movie. There is no detail spared for the animation which is beautifully done, like all of Don Bluth's creations. The storyline is amusing and the gameplay will set your heart pounding as you try to get the timing right. The archive interview footage is also interesting; watching the 80s media excitement over Laser Discs, the precursor to DVD.
Rating: - Space Ace DVD review
Space Ace, just released here in the UK offers all the old classical laser disc game on one tiny DVD disk and represents great value for money.
I first remember playing Space Ace in the arcades in the 80's and was amazed by it's graphical powers. Even now, it is still amazing and the video on DVD is very clear and the sound, although only pro-logic is still very good considering how old the original game is.
Having just played the game for the first time in my DVD player it was an absolute delight.
You have a choice of which of the two character you wish to play, either as Space Ace or the weaker Dexter. The game is easier to play as Dexter as you don't have to perform as many complicated moves as you move throught the various levels fighting the evil Commander Borf.
The video is very clear but I found that the DVD did tend to jump if i continually pressed my DVD remote control at the wrong time, you therefore need to make sure you time the moves as accurately as posssible with you DVD remote control as otherwise it may confuse the DVD player.
Yes, you dont need a playstation 2 to play this game!, it is compatible with most DVD players, however if you own an Aiwa or Toshiba I would check first whether the DVD is compatible.
There are also interviews with the creators of Space Ace, Rick Dyer and Don Bluth.
Overall, this is a great game for adults and kids alike and I would recommend it without hesitation.
