Rating: - A forgotten classic
It makes me sad to see that no-one has reviewed this stunning album since someone dismissed it as another "New Rock Revolution" also-ran back in 2003. It's so much more than that. The band always insisted that they'd split up within 5 years and sure enough, at the start of 2005, they did. But they left behind this album, its follow-up (and near-equal) Modern Apprentice and the excellent EP Basic Instructions. And that's not to mention their incendiary and occasionally out of control live shows.
As for what it sounds like, influences such as The Fall, Wire and Joy Division through - it's dark, fast, clattery and noisy, shot through with machine gun drumming, sheet metal guitars, thundering basslines and wry lyrics from the leather jacketed Mr Paul Resende. Art school punk at its best. RIP.
Rating: - Its ok i guess!
The album as a whole is good, 'Rudd' being the best song by far. But it seems to get tiresome towards the end and repetetive. Hardcore fans of the Strokes, Hives, Datsuns and the rest of the new rock revolution bands, will enjoy this more than me most probably and welcome it to there CD collection. But if you have had enough of the new rock revolution, steer clear of this album!
Rating: - A short stab of something new!
Well, here we are. Hopefully soon, you too can own one of the greatest album of this decade so far! The album is delightful through and through, with the slow pounding catchiness of *city of glass* to the furious mish mash of guitars and vocals in *bishop's son* and *pop group* this album caters for a taste of the new, the fast, and catchy. This band are extremely hard to describe, but if you think of punk on hyper-pills with a air of class (not to mention looks, they're snazzy dressers!) to it. Be sure to look out for the secret track at the end! Seriously, you need to buy this album, you will NOT be dissappointed!
