I had the extreme good fortune to see Enter The Haggis perform live prior to purchasing this disc. I recommend similar experience for any who are able, for even this exquisite Celtic rock disc pales in comparison to their high-octane live performances. However, for any who cannot experience this Canadian quintet's live show, this is still a magnificent collection of traditional and original songs. There are several instrumental performances such as "Music Box" and "Twirling Towards Freedom" which showcase Brian Buchanan's fiddle playing as well as the fine piping of Craig Downie. Only a true Scot could play such. Rather than having a specific lead vocalist, ETH share lead among them. On this disc, the lead vocals are primarily the clear, ringing Brian and the dusky, more brooding Trevor; each voice perfectly suited to its material. Among the vocal tracks, "Gasoline" deserves to be a radio hit, its environmental indecisiveness holding a mirror to western society's own even as its driving beat ensures nobody within earshot can sit still. As well, you'll never hear a more energetic version of "The Minstrel Boy." Neither will you be able to resist the urge to replay the entire lot after the final trills of "Down with the Ship" have faded away.
I would also heartily recommend a visit to Enter the Haggis' website where one can find other discs which the men have produced independently.
