Rating: - Amazing comeback!
To be honest, I didn't think season 4 would be all that good, what with the death of Marissa Cooper at the end of season 3, I really didn't think the writers would come up with anything like what they did. However, when I started watching season 4, I knew that I was wrong to judge based on what happened last series.
This is quite a short season - just 16 episodes, but it's a good one.
I totally did not see the romance between Ryan and Taylor coming - if I'm truthful Ryan seemed to get over Marissa quite quickly; I thought he would be mourning and very unsociable for at least half of the series.
The last episode had me in tears, at the last line they just came pouring out uncontrollably.
Overall, a great season and an unbelievable comeback from season 3, well done!

this is the fourth and final season of this fabulous show. i have to say its my favourite, mainly cos there is now whining from marissa (mischa barton)n is season. although its only 16 episodes long, they are funny and funfilled. favourite guest character is season gordon "bang" bullitt!!! the final 2 episodes still make me cry and i love how the ending of the show shows all our favourite characters futures and ends with the line "hey kid, need some help?"
Rating: - Arguably the best OC season....
The OC, season 4 - I think I have to agree with some of the sentiments on here that season 4 was the best since the first season, and I do think that's largely due to the departure of Marissa, but not necessarily Mischa Barton. I think Barton is a great actress and have liked her for years, however the character of Marissa seemed to be stuck in a rut and going nowhere, so getting rid of her helped the show a lot. It's such a huge shame the show was cancelled after season 4 because I thought it had found itself again with the introduction of Kaitlyn and Taylor - they should have a least given them a full season to explore the new characters and relationships properly, because I think it might have saved the show in the end and it could have carried on. Summer is still without a doubt my favourite character, and had been since season one, and I still found Seth to be as annoying as ever.... All in all though, this is a DVD set worth buying if you're an OC fan. :)
Oh, and while I think about it - one pet peeve I always had about the OC was that they didn't explore Summer's "anger blackouts" in more detail, I think that would have made a good story arc for her character.
